issue II. The Light We Left On

Please ensure that your work complies with the following guidelines; any work that does not will be immediately rejected.

We are currently only accepting works from writers aged 17-26.

Dates

📅 Submission Period: November 1st – December 12th

📩 Response Time: Within two weeks

*We don't accept revisions to submissions once the submission period is close*

Categories

📖 Prose​

  • Short fiction: Up to 3,000 words

  • Flash fiction: Up to 2 pieces, 1,000 words each

  • Creative nonfiction & personal essays: Up to 3,000 words

📝 Poetry

  • ​Up to 4 poems, 2 pages max each

​

🎭 Plays & Screenplays

  • Up to 6 pages​

🖼️ Artwork & Photography

  • Up to 4 pieces per category

Formatting

File Type: Upload as a PDF, if uploading more than one piece submit it as a single doc

Font & Style: Arial, size 11, 1.5 line spacing

Doc. Title: [genre]_[Last, First Name]_[Title]

ex: prose_Vasquez, Ariana_sparks but no flame

​Languages: Submissions in any language are welcomed, but an English translation is required

Content Warning

While Whispering Fields Review is dedicated to providing a space for honest and unfiltered expression, we ask that submissions handle topics such as sexual assault, violence, self-harm, suicide, and abuse with care.

 

We do not accept work that gratuitously depicts or glorifies these themes. Some of our readers and editors are minors, so we also ask that submissions avoid explicitly sexual or NSFW content.

 

Additionally, to honor the originality of creators, we do not accept fan works.

Guidelines

  • Submissions are free and should be uploaded through the google form links above

  • Any work created with AI will not be tolerated. If your submission is found to be created or aided by AI, you will be blacklisted from further issues

  • Include a short, third person bio about yourself

  • Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify us if your piece is accepted elsewhere

  • We do not accept previously published pieces, including self-published work

  • Whispering fields review does not accept plagiarized work​

  • Any work with clear discriminatory intent (ie. racism, sexism, homophobia, etc) will not be accepted. Unnecessary graphic depictions will also not be accepted

  • By submitting your work, you retain full rights and may publish or share it elsewhere after its initial appearance in Whispering Fields Review. We kindly ask that you credit Whispering Fields Review as the original place of publication. If your piece is accepted, you will receive an email with details on any necessary edits or formatting adjustments
